| Object's Name: Handle Pithos Inscribed, Impressed with Stamp-Seal Impression Period: Early Islamic Material: Pottery Site: Ramla, esh-Sheikh Rihan Description: A massive handle of a pithos or a zir. A seal impression in three
rows reads "from Dir Samwil". Similar handles with this inscription
or a variation of it, were found in excavations in Ramla, Caesarea,
Tiberias and Jerusalem. A workshop in Nebi-samuel, north-west of
Jerusalem Produced this type of pithos. The handles are decorated
with seal impressions carrying inscriptions, stars, circles etc.
