Description: A round spindle whorl made of bone. These weight-shaped whorls were
fitted onto spindles to increase and maintain the speed of the spin.
This spindle whorl has a flat base and convex body with a central
straight hole It is decorated with punching and engraving and had
.been polished
Typologically, spindle whorls continue a Roman-Byzantine tradition
with an Islamic interpretation of its decoration. These spindle
whorls are dated to the Early Islamic period, between the mid eighth
century and the first half of the eleventh century.
