Research using aerial photography and observations along the coast have shown that as a result of the construction of the Herzliya marina, the coastline is regressing and the coastal cliff is undergoing rapid disintegration, causing massive damage to the ancient city remains of Apolloniya. On the seabed large areas, previously covered, are now exposed, revealing remnants of sea vessels and cargoes, including a cargo of basalt millstones, an iron anchor, and numerous other finds.
