Parachute and revolver belonging to one of the pilots
In 1998 the Marine Archaeology Unit participated in the search operations for the missing pilots and their 'Mosquito' plane that disappeared in 1953. In the course of the underwater surveys a parachute and its buckles, a revolver, and flying goggles were located. An excavation was carried out in the area yielding the discovery of human bones. The missing pilots were given official military funerals in 2002, accompanied by a flyover of combat planes. The divers of the Marine Archaeology Unit were presented with an IDF certificate of honor for their part in locating the missing pilots.
